Please Show Your T5 Tanks
I am curious what different bulb configurations of T5's look like on tanks.
So, take a picture of your tank, tell how many bulbs/watts, what kind of bulb, and the order of bulbs. Thanks! -Chuck |

This comes up a lot....
but for the most part, pictures of tanks to show the lighting are useless... 100% useless. There are just to many variables. The camera, white balance, ambient room light, software settings, monitor and browser settings, windows color settings, and 100 more things. Even if the photographer gets everything calibrated just right, the web viewer is still unlikely to get a fair representation of color. Of course you can see "bluer" or "yellower" when comparing 2 photos of the same tank, taken under the exact same conditions, and processed the same way... but that still does not mean what you are looking at is anywhere near what the human eye sees when standing in front of the tank. We are relying on the person taking a photo and making sure it represents the true colors of their tank before they post. But, of the tanks that I have seen in person, when the photo they put on the web matches the way the tank looks before they upload it, then they look very similar on the web. So, in that regard, it isn't useless. But then, my monitor is only a couple of years old. But, thanks for the input. -Chuck |

Chuck, it really has nothing to do with the age of the monitor
I could more than likely show you that your monitor is not even close in terms of color (not many are). Just walk into comp usa, best buy or whateve and step back so you get a view of all 30 monitors on display. If they don't have the same image on them, ask the resident pimple faced salesman to make it so. You will see a rainbow of color variation for the same image. We are nto even talking about the "true color", just the vast variation in display. So, you can see "pretty" or "appealing" pcitures in a situation like this and can certainly see color variation from one type of light to the next, but the actual colors represented are meaningless. Just trying to help, as the majority of folks do not understand (or would never even consider that it mattered). Bean |

We can still get a general idea if the lights are very yellow, or very blue. It may not be exactly what their tank looks like in person, but it gives you an idea of what bulbs peaple are using and the general color.

I have to agree with Bean. I have yet to take a pic of my tank that even remotely resembles what the tank looks like as far as true colors.
Here is a pic, but the rock is really much more purple and the lighting is much less yellow; almost crisp white. Next is auto white balance: And finally, auto flourescent (bright) setting:

Don't get me wrong, I love the tank photos (even purchased a new DSLR primarily to take tank photos). I just cringe every time somebody asks "Can I see photos of your XX bulbs, I am thinking of buying some". Bean |

the stand at the lowest is 4 inchs of the water and allthe way up is about 8-12 inches (very easy to adjust)

I know that you can't get a good idea of the colors of the tank. So, I will post before and after pics. I have a long way to go on my tank, but you can get an idea of the look. You can look at close-ups of some of my corals here: PICS HERE
My bulbs are as follows: Blueplus Aquablue GE Daylight Blueplus Aquablue Blueplus I also have 2 layers of black screen under the lights because the lights were too white without it. Before: PC's 10K and 50/50 After: -Chuck |
