Typhoon 3 Odd Behavior

I have owned the Airwaterice Typhoon 3 Ro/DI system for about 4 months now with no problems.

I just changed out the DI resin and I have noticed some odd behavior.

I now hear an air escaping sound. I can't quite pinpoint where it is coming from. It sounds like somewhere around the auto shut off valve but I can't be sure.

I changed out the DI resin before with no problems. This is the first time the air escaping sound has manifested itself.

The TDS coming out of the unit is zero. The pressure gauge reads right at 60 PSI. It has not changed since the unit was new. I have no leaks either.

However the water here has warmed but I notice since I changed the DI resin that the air escaping sound has started, the waste water is not flowing as fast as it was, but also the RO/DI water is not flowing as quickly as it was before the resin change.

The other odd thing is that there are what appears to be air bubbles in the DI chamber and no other chambers. I have never seen this before nor have I ever had this air escaping sound.

Any clues out there as to what may be happening? I don't think I screwed anything up. I have changed the DI resin before it's pretty straight forward and easy.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Pat

I just changed my DI last night.....and so far so good.... The only thing that came to mind was maybe the pressure inside the canisters changed with the warm water you mentioned. Have you loosened, and tightened them back up to equalize?

I have no idea if that would do anything, but that would be the first thing I would try if it happend to me.....

Try to contact airwaterice......they are great to work with!

No I have not loosed anything and then re-tightened. I didn't the last time either.

I did send them an email. I thought I would try here as well. There are a lot of these units out there. Maybe AZdesertRat will have some ideas.

Thanks,

Regards,

Pat

Pat, the first thing you should do is loosen each canister and check the o-ring. You can use a dab silicone grease smeared around the o-rings to lube them if needed, this will keep them from binding when you put them back on.

I opend each cannister, put some silicone on each o ring and then reassemled. No change. I still have the small bubbles in the DI cartridge only and the sound of escaping air. Wierd. I still have zero TDS coming out so I guess I shouldn't worry about it. It's just strange. I have never have the sound before and the water on both outlets, waste and DI is less than before. Hummmmmm.

Guess I'll have to wait and see what, Is Walter his name, from Airwaterice gets back to me.

Regards,

Pat

me too... you didn't use caulk did you.... you only wrote "silicone"...

if so, you will need new O-rings the next time you take it apart.

I'm slow, but not quite that slow guys, I use silicone lubricant for all my o'rings, keep's em nice and pliant and we'll errr lubricated.

It didn't do any good though. I still have the bubbles in the DI cannister and the air escaping sound. The good news is that it is still making water and the TDS is still zero.

Regards,

Pat

Just a followup to close this thread. I heard back from Airwaterice. The indication is it's just some air in the system and it will purge itself with use. No worries is what I was told. Like I said previously, the TDS is zero. I will keep an eye on it and test the TDS regularly.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I appreciate it.

Regards,

Pat
