Just what Grows on this live Rock
I was wondering Just what grows on this live rock - Plants ? -
Critters? Also if i got base rock and used that and then it became live rock will it grows this purple stuff you see talked about ? or planet or anything? i plan i also doing a really deep live sand bed |

Other than turtle grass and mangroves there aren't many plants in salt water. What you are referring to as plants are actually an algae. Kelp for instance is an algae. Its the largest single celled organism in the world.
There is lots of life on liverock when it is collected. Unfortunaltely most of it cannot survive in an enclosed system so it dies. What left is some coralline, pods, and a variety of hitchhikers. Some good some bad. But the main purpose of the liverock and what makes it live is the bacteria that lives in it. Everything else is just gravy. So yes, base rock will become live given some time and bacterial colonization provided its pourous. And if seeded with "that purple stuff" it will grow coralline. Mike |
