Sump Help!
Here's a picture of the setup for a 100 gallon tank.
![]() I am not sure exactly how I should plumb this. Is there anyway I can hook up the drain line to the skimmer, which then will feed into the sump? Is that possible or am I way off? The sump doesn't have room for the skimmer inside so I was thinking maybe to drain directly into the sump and drill a hole in the return area of the sump for the skimmer. What would be the best option? All suggestions/feedback is welcome. TIA |

Here is a pic of my refugium.
As you can see the skimmer is taking water from the fuge intake side and returning water to the middle chamber. This will give you the best skimmer performance while keeping excess bubbles from the skimmer from getting sucked up to the tank. Hope this helps! |

let the skimmer hang on the side of the sump, where the return is. This will work fine, I promise. I have mine this way, and I always get a good skimmate.

oh, and this will also allow the skimmer to take and drain all from the sump. OR, if your return area is big enough, just sit the skimmer in the sump.

ok well you have a CSS right?? the are designed to hang on back of aquariums, so really you could hang it on the side of your sump. or if you have a area big enough in your sump to fit it, just place it in the sump and let it run there.

Okay, so I can hang the skimmer on the side and just drop the pump in the return area? If so, then what about a return pump? I won't have room for that.

Is the pump going inside or outside the sump?

How much live rock are you going to have? Are you going to put sand in too, how much. If its enough rock and sand then you might not even have to use the bio balls.
Oh by the way, you should hang the skimmer definately next to the return piping in the sump if you can't put it in the sump. I don't quite understand what happening in the second part of the sump where the bioballs are. Are there baffles?
