Pics of your TEK light tank

Hi people,

I'm thinking of ditching the idea of metal halides and going with an 8 bulb 48" tek light instead on my 90 gallon.

Does anyone want to post up some pics of what it looks like over your tank? It would be greatly appreciated. Also, do you use it with a glass cover over the tank or just wide open and why.

I have built 2 different canopys for my tank already so I want to make sure I am making the right choice before I decided to go without.

Thank you very much!

I don't have an 8 bulb unit, but I run with the acrylic shield on the fixture and no glass tops. I want water to evaporate and the glass will accumulate moisture which diminishes the amount of light entering the tank.

That's what I was thinking. I guess I will not be able to keep certain fish that require a tigt fitting lid.

I like my 8 bulb tek light, but I prefer Halides.

The tek light now hangs over my 50 gallon Refugium/Frag Growout setup.

Its open top.

What makes you like the halides better? Is it b/c of the shimmer effect?

The good thing also about halides is that I can still use them if/when I decide to upgrade.

I like the shimmer, the growth, and the coloration of the Halides.

I didnt run the tek light more than a few months, maybe I would have gotten used to it.

Thats my 40B with 6x39wattT5s. I use 2xblue+, 2xactinic+, 2x aquablue/11,000K. It looks very much like my 250watt pheonix bulb in spectrum, but much brighter. Much, much brighter.

So far, so good. I have frags of various color millis, blue tort, purple digi, a galaxea, torch, sun polyps, GSP (seems to be getting too much light though), neon green palythoa, bubble coral, xenia, encrusting porites, hydnopora, and various shrooms (hairy green, purple, metallic green). Everything is doing great, and the algae that came with the rock (2nd hand fiji rock that was covered with algaes) is going away thanks to the yellow tang.

Once the chemistry evens out, I will add all the really cool frags.

OK, here's a link to a beautiful tank in Switzerland. I have a 4-light TEK over my 55g but it just doesn't compare to this:

That tank is what made my all hot for T5's in the first place. There are just so many good things about T5's and the TEK lights in particular that make me want to forget all about MH.

It is still up in the air as of right now; I am running 2 HO 54 watts T5's on my 90 right now (nothing in it but a little rock) and it is nice and bright.

Keep the pics coming!
