Help with ORP please

HI, Just got my new ACII hooked up a few weeks ago and I was wondering what ORP is and where is a good point for it. My ORP was about 365 when I hooked the ACII up a few weeks ago. it is now at 470 before the water change i just did. What does a high reading mean or a low reading. Thanks for the help.

One hour after water change ORP is at 420 and going up very slowly, like 1 point per 20-30 minutes

Are you runnign ozone?

If not, your probe isnt accurate.

Also, they need to be washed in vinegar about once a week to stay accurate. At 470 ORP, everything in your tank would be dead.

If you're not running ozone, just ignore it. It measures oxidation-reduction potential, which is kind of like a way to see how much junk is in your water. Its used to monitor ozone levels.

Maybe it just needs to be calibrated. I dont have an ACII, so I dont know. Leave it in vinegar for an hour or so, shake it off a couple times, and put it back in the tank, see if it goes back down to 325-350 range.

Also, whats you're PH reading?

Well I dont know about that, but 470 mv is high. Most people using ozone target 375 to 400 for ORP. You will always get a drop right after a water change because freshly made salt water has an ORP in the 220 to 270 mv range. If you are not injecting ozone yet, I agree that your probe is probably off.

Joe, there is great debate on whether or not that number is important or not. Or whether a tank is any better off at 300 than 400. I would say that low 200's is pretty low but whether it is dangeous or not I can not say. Many things affect ORP.

It could be the probe in your case too. Try soaking the probe in vinager for about 15 min. See if while its soaking the ORP raises to the high 400's low 500's. At least you'lll know if your probe is working.
