New Aquarium with a baby coral? (now with photo)
Hi everyone... I wanted to start with a big "thanx" for all the help provided so far...
I have a 46g bow tank that I have recently started. i ordered 46lbs of fiji LR from an online dealer. this rock was cleaned and put into the aquarium, and about a week has passed since it was introduced. I now have new growth occuring in the rock... green Halimeda (?) plants, green grass like plants, purple grass like plants, etc. INcluded in this is a VERY small (1/4 of a dime sized) clear critter of some sort, i believe it is a coral. I have seen it crouch back into it's base when the tank is disturbed and debris is in the water. I wanted to have a reef tank in the long run, but envisioned a FOWLR tank with the option of going reef down the road. Yet if this is some sort of coral like creature then i'd like to try to keep it alive. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help me? Last edited by jag911; 05/16/2006 at 07:08 PM. |

Keep it under some bright lights. What kind of lights do you have? Can you get a pic of your coral?

No, At least I don't think it's a duster. I have seen these before, they have long thing brown shafts with the feather like flower at the tope...
This is a little clear bulbs that are sort tube or vase shaped. They have a little hole at the top of each bulb/tube. Does this sound familiar to anyone??

Hmm... If it's the pic on melevs page, i dont think so... the pic doesn't show it but there are no hairlike features... just lots of little tube bulb polyp type things... I'm going to try another photo tonight.

Looks like a feather duster worm to me, but the pic isn't great (I find it hard to get close-ups too). If you move something near it, does it quickly retract? If so, you're looking at a worm. Pineapple sponges really do look like little pineapples made of cotton, and often where there's one there are more nearby. Either way, if it's one of the two it's beneficial.
