What temp does everyone keep their tank at?
I was just curious what everyone keeps their temp at for corals? My temp ranges from 78 to about 80. Is this good or does it need to be a little higher?
Thanks b. |

I prefer mine to be 80*F +/- 1 But currently, until I get a second fan for my canopy, I've been running a constant 82*F
BTW, Paintbug, how do you get the degree symbol? Alt+###?

Mine only has rock and sand but its stable at 86*. It was stable at 84* untill I turned on the lights last night. Now it doesn't want to lose any heat. I'm buying some fans tonight. I'm hopeing to get down to 82*.

I run mine about 78 in the winter, around 80 in the summer.
Try to keep it at least a couple degrees below the 83+ problem range.

There was a large poll taken some time back, I wasn't able to locate it, but most reef tanks are run ( I think it was about 97%) between 78-82° F. The real reef averages just under 82° F and the average variation is from 76-86° F. Most tanks are run a little lower than the 82° F average as the hobbyist doesn't want to risk over-heating if room temps get too high.

76.8° at night to 80.4° in the day. I've been trying very hard to keep it under 82 as I have not been able to keep a turbo snail alive and figure the high temps are what killed my last two.

I have my heater on a timer, it comes on for half an hour a day, every hour & a half. With my lighting schedule that keeps my tank at no higher that 81° and no lower than 79° never any different, it took some time to get the timing right so that the temp would stay at that range but I got it, and it never has changed since

Oh my, lets keep this thread politically correct, masculine ordinal Indeed! At least throw in an ª for the ladies.
Thanks for the list Paintbug. Jewett, I won't think a temp of 82º would have that much impact of your snails unless oxygen levels were extremely critical in your tank. Except for some far northern creatures, temps close to 90° should not prove fatal. That type of temperature is fairly common in the tropics and is often exceeded in shallow reef areas, often by quite a bit.

Pfft yeah right waterkeeper what do you know? Who died and made you god!! Just kidding, Read many of your threads, thanks for commenting.. I wasn't sure about the turbos.. I read they liked cooler water and it was about the only thing my tank didn't meat.. I slow drip acclimated each turbo. The tank has "PLENTY" of food for them.. They each lived about 2 weeks.. Then stoped moving and died a few days later. My next shot will be buying my stock from a differnt LFS..
