tropic marin pro salt

i finally read the kalt salt thread in the reef discussion area so i decided to test my batch of newly mixed water today. well, i have the bad salt with the extremely low alk. i was wondering if any lfs around san francisco carry tropic marin pro salt? next time, i'm going to test the bucket when i open it. now i know why i have been battling inconsistency levels in my tank...

i use the regular TM salt and it works grate of me

i'll listen to salt suggestions other than tm pro too . so far from what i have read, tm pro, seachem and oceanpure are doing pretty well in other people's tanks.

I tried TM Pro-Reef. The alk of freshly mixed SW with 1.026 sg was approximately 2.5 meq/L, which is on the low side, imo. The calcium tested at 490 ppm which is not in balance with 2.5 meq/L by any means. These tests were done repeatedly using new Salifert kits.

I just switched to Reef Crystals. I am also considering seachem as i've heard good things, but not sure if it is any better than Reef Crystals which are pretty cheap and the alk, ca and pH test in the range I try to shoot for.

fwiw, I used to use TM regular salt on my 65g and never had a problem with it.

thanks, i read that. but i havent seen seachem salt locally nor tm pro. i think someone said lucky goldfish has oceanpure, but i am not sure about oceanpure pro. i may have to call around...

I have been using Seachem Reefsalt also for more than 6 months and I love it. The problem is at this time no LFS in Bay Area carry it, but I am relying from a different source. I went to Seachem web and called each and every LFS in Bay Area in the list that are approved Seachem dealer and none of them carry the salt. That was about 6 or so months ago, though. I heard that 6th Ave used to carry it in bag, not bucket, as a trial, but after checking, they told me that they will not carry it anymore. So, correct me if I am wrong, but as far as my search 6 months or so ago, no LFS in Bay Area carry Seachem Reefsalt.

trmiv, I think when I measured the fresh mix I got alk of 3.5meq/L and Calcium was nearly balanced, I want to say ~440ppm. pH was ~8.15 for me with both mixes, this may be a function of my DI water, not sure.
