Anyone use Reef Chili?

Just wondering if anyone uses this stuff. I'm thinking of buying some for my tanks, but haven't heard too much discussion on it. Looks like pretty good stuff from the ingredients.

Looks interesting Stan. I think this can made at home for a fraction of the cost though. Sounds like the bio-engineered zooplankton is Cyclo-peeze, little ESV spray-dried, little sprirulina.. presto!

They say "if you can bottle it you can sell it!" Guess I'll just make my own!

I priced it out roughly earlier and I would estimate I could make enough to last me the next 3 years for about $50. They also say "there's a sucker born every minute"...

I bought a little bottle (1.5 OZ) a few weeks ago. The recommended dose is small, but has a lot punch to it. I can't say I've ever seen my corals consume anything, but the tang, goby, trigger, and shrimp are crazy over it. Much better investment than all bottled up liquids.

I do not promote nor do I have any negative feedback on this product...just some clarification here... this is not one of the numerous snake-oil products put out... it appears to be nothing more than some readily available ingredients repackaged. Everyone's got to make a buck...

Hey I work at a car dealer! Only we are allowed to peddle snake oil! Thanks for the input!

Stan-
You wouldn't be referring to that "extra" clear coat finish applied to the front of the car to reduce chips and bug stains now would you?

I made something similar to this by ordering freeze-dried rotifers, copepods, and a couple sizes of golden pearls from brineshrimpdirect.com. Mix together with cyclopeeze and target feed my gonioporas and gorgonians.

I was wondering about this so I checked it out and with shipping it was $60.14 if you purchased the smallest amount of each product. the total weight was 9oz. However I don't think you would want to use the full 2 ounces of Spirulina or Daphnia . maybe a 1/2 oz of each (probably even less of the spirulina). So you have around 6 ounces for $60.14. The reef chili is $55 for 4.5 ounces. The buy the smallest amount of everything recipe also has the recipe basically reversed as far as contents goes on the reef chili package. When I tried to fix this and put in 2oz of zooplankton and phytoplankton so it contained more of these than the other ingredients I came up with $80.14 for 8.5 ounces which was substantially cheaper. Problem is now I have three years worth of food that wont stay fresh that long. If I end up wasting half of it then i paid $80.14 for 4.25 ounces, which is way more than buying reef chili. You could split it with someone and save about $14 each (bit over a dollar a month if it lasted a year) if you used it all.

I think you pretty much have to organize a group buy of some sort or have a ridiculously large tank to save anything. However if you organized an extremely large group buy i think you could cut the costs in half. I think for most people it is not worth organizing that size of a group buy to save two-three bucks a month on food.

Something to be said for buying a ready to use product that doesn't involve mixing and formula has been used with success in other peoples tanks .You would just be guessing on how much of each item to put in.

BTW i used marine depot for pricing.

I use this stuff and love it. All I know is that i was using DT's phyto and cyclopese and it is saving me quite a bit of $$$ a month. Also, my corals (lps, sps, Zoas) all look more colorful and are growing faster than with the aforementioned products. I was the biggest skeptic of all when it comes to using these kinda all in one products, but the results were absolutely astounding to me. At about $15 bucks for almost a year supply for my 150g tank, it is not worth my time to attempt to make this product on my own to supposedly save a buck. I do understand that many enjoy making their own food, which I think is great, its just not for me. I have yet to see any negative results with The Chili and have had no complaints from my inhabitants either.
