Question Tiny featherdusters in skimmer-> move to sump?

Here is a good question for the masses......

I currently have a CPR BakPak on a 55gal. This tank has been setup for many years and over time the return side of the skimmer has become the home of thousands of tiny featherdusters. Literally thousands. They have grown and intertwined themselves into the Biobail that was originally included with the skimmer.

I have kept them in there and have tried not to disturb them over the years. The logic behind this is that I am hoping they are removing the micro particals in the water thus making it crystal clear. It appears to be working.

Any thoughts?

My bakpak was a refugium for 5 yrs, there were worms, pods, snails and featherdusters.
When I took my tank down, I hated having to clean out the skimmer and kill everything but I didn't know what else to do with it. I did manage to rescue the pods though

You're right on the money. They are definitely doing you a favor. Their placement has pros and cons. Pros: They eat anything the skimmer misses taking out. Cons: Their waste enters into the aquarium. Pros: Their waste easily breaks down. Cons: This is an indicator that your skimmer isn't too efficient. Eh, but any skimmer is a help
