Serpent Sea Star found dead

This morning I found pieces of my Serpent Sea Star all over the tank. I found his central disc with one leg still attached which i took out, along with as many pieces of him as i could find. Does anyone have any clue what could have caused this? I have a coral beauty angel, a six line wrasse, and a pair of clowns in a 75g. I have 3 maxi-jet 1200's do you think he mightve gotten caught in one of these?
