questions about test kits

I just bought a tropic marin nitrate test kit and i just now looked at the date. It was expired in october 2005. The box was never opened or anything like that. Will it still work?

Probably. Only problem is, if you don't run controls you can't have confidence in the results. I would guess that the indicator would start to darken giving false postives, you could check this with a blank. For checking positive results, maybe a grain of nitrate fertilyzer in some water and check it.
