whats the proper temp for a saltwater tank

I have a 55Gsalt tank what is the proper temp to keep the tank at. 78-80 degrees. Some people keep there 83-85 degrees. What is the right one 78-80 or 83-85

85 is pushing it. It's personal preference really. Stability is more important than the actual temp. I keep my tank around 79 degrees.

i run my tank with an aquacontroller, it has programmed built in, the seasonal temps.

80-81 seems to be the most popular though.

Everything i have read says from 78-82. I run mine at 80.1- 81 and things are working out great. I would say that keeping things constant over time is far more important than the actual number itself as long as it falls somewhere in the "safe zone."

I'm one of the few people that disagree with keeping the temp constant. My temp swings from 79-83 degrees daily and my corals are doing great. I believe that if you get your corals and fish to adapt to these changes, you won't have losses when something goes wrong and you have a temp spike. Keep in mind everyone that corals and fish in the wild do not have stable temps all day. Anthony Calfo once said something I will never forget at a reef club meeting I attended. He said "don't worry so much about keeping your temp so stable...Trust me, you can't put those corals through what low tide at the equator does"

I keep mine at a constant 78 degrees with a computer fan I mounted in my sump. Most articles I have read regarding my corals and fish states they do best between 72 -78 degrees.
