How do I get rid of algae?
I just had an algae bloom. What is this from? How do i get rid of it? I have very low nitrates but i do have VHO lights. Could they be the culprit?

Which of you 2 tanks is having the problem?
What are your other water params? And how low are the Nitrates? How often/long are the lights on? How often do you feed the tank? How much? Have you adding anything new to the tank? Where are you getting your top-off water from? What are you keeping in the tank? How often are you doing water changes?

temp is about 78, lights are on 10 hrs a day, nitrates are 0 (aquarium pharmeceuticals test kit), feed 2 clowns 1 purple pseudo and a brittle star once a day flake and pellet, added 2 peppermint shrimp recently along with about 15 nasarrius snails and 30 small hermits, i have not done any changes yet, top off water comes from bath tap. Sorry for the messy response, let me know what you think.

From the info you provided I would say the algae bloom most likely is caused from the Lack of any water change, (How old is the 75), and the fact that your getting your water from the tap.

The stiring up of a 4 year old DSb will also release alot of stored nutrients that will contribute to an algea bloom.
