Best Prot. Skimmer for my new 29g FOWLR tank
Ive just recently became very interested with saltwater reef tanks and such..soo i decided to start a tank of my own..Right now ive got and emp. 280(with the filter taken out and a lb of grubble LR in it) with a powerhead..20lbs. of LR. Ive been told by numerous people on RC that i should get a protein skimmer. What protein skimmer should i get for my 29g FOWLR tank but maybe in the futur a reef tank.

I have both and to be honest, One does not outskim the other, but IMO the super skimmer is quiter, however it takes up much more room. The Remora is slim and can fit in tight places or easily hang on the back of your tank.

get a sump if you can and get a ASM g1x or buy the euro reef cs80 on marine depot it will give you a much better skimmer over all and trust me it will blow those skimmers out of the water but if you want to do the HOB i would say the CSS 65 they seem to work but then again ive heard alot about aquaC But id go with the sump anyday.

I would highly reccomend one of the Tunze Comline skimmers, they are a little more then the Aqua C, but they will skim circles around the AquaC Remora. I had the AquaC remora for 2 years and I've never been happy with the performance. I installed the Tunze 9005 in my tank and its skimmed out more junk in 4 days then the Aqua C did in 2 years.
Another cool thing is they are DEAD quiet, they are very small 4.4" x 4.4" and can be installed in a sump or tank, and they have very low energy use... Rich |

I've never used a corallife skimmer so I have no idea, but knowing the Tunze quality and using one now I would say it would beat a corallife with no problem.
You will have a hard time finding a lot of good info on the Tunzes because they are not really used much in the US, but in Europe they are popular. Check out this thread on them from the Tunze forums: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...hreadid=828469 |
