Hyposalinity with Copper

Hi all,

Has anyone had any success with utilizing a combined hyposalinity/copper treatment as an effective quarantine method? Have always QTd the fish using hypo, but find bad things can happen the longer the fish stay in, was hoping to shorten the timeframe a bit by possible using copper. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Christy,

I have been told by several people that there is no need to combine. I am treating two of my fish in a hospital tank for ick using hypo. I have also heard that copper is tricky, too much and the fish dies, not enough and the ick doesn't. This is just what I have heard.

I do agree that fish seem to freak out from the long 4-6 weeks hypo treatments.

Hopefully we get some experts to chime in.

Keith

Yes, expert advice would be nice. I have had to deal with swim bladder problems, lymphocystitis, hlle, and random fish death, all I believe attributable to accumulated stresses from too long in hypo. So, I am looking for anything that will shorten the time in hypo, but still reliable kill the parasite.
