Fishy Business is changing owners

I stopped by Fishy Business yesterday looking for koi and started talking to the guy who was cleaning Kin's tanks. I thought it was odd Kin would be hiring a new employee when he seems to have no customers. The guy's name is Keith Beranek. It turned out he and his wife will be the new owners as of July 1st.

He said he wants to apply Trey's practice of low prices and high volume. It'll be good to have more choices in town, particularly in an area dominated by one shop. I'm sure there's room for everyone. Good luck, Keith!

Some people don't realize that a while back he relocated from the shopping center on the NE corner of Maizeland Rd and Academy Blve to a small building across Maizeland (Academy Place and Maizeland Rd).

A new owner?... that's gotta be good news. The old one certainly came off clueless. I felt like I time warped to an LFS back in 1985.

Frankly, being able to go in there without fear of attack by that **** dog would be an improvement.

Not since a week ago Friday. He did tell me that he wants to improve the tank lighting though. I think he wants to start stocking corals. Heck, I'd be thrilled just to have the ceiling lights on.

LOL!!! I know what you mean... He used to have a nice shop way back when, but what I've seen as of a couple years ago, I don't understand how he stays in business... Who are his customers!?!?!?!?

I went in there last week. It could use some clean up and some of the ceiling tiles replaced. Some anthelias for corals. Few nice fishes. A really nice pair of saddleback clowns was available too.

Back in the early 90's when the store use to be at the corner of Murray and S.Carefree (I think that's the street?) it was a nice store! It was one of a few stores that had salt water and some corals. Ken was even building custom glass tanks. I even had one built by him in 1992 and still had it up and running until last year.
But I know what most of you are saying! I was in there about 5-6 months ago when I was visiting family and a few friend and the place was a dump! I hope that the new owners turn it around. I did have a lot of great experiences there!

JME,
Martin

P.S. Too bad Reef Pirates went out back in the mid 90's!
