Quick alge question
Sorry guys, this has to be a beaten to death one but the search feature doesnt work and hasnt in days. I read through the FAQ's before posting.
Anywho, There is a brown alge growing on my live rock and the back glass of my tank. I am in the midst of changing from a fish only to reef so my current set up is. 110g mega flow, with two 40 watt bulbs, 150 wet dry, 220 protein skimmer and mag 7 return pump with power heads in the tank. My nitrates are staying at or below 20 ppm and I have been skimming for a couple weeks now. Tank has only been set up for 5 or 6 weeks. Only have 4 damsels, a sally light foot and about 10 hermits. I have used RO to fill the tank but just installed my DI so it has not had any DI water in it yet. I have a refugium, UV serilizer and better lights coming. Along with using DI water from here out I feel like I should be ok in the future. My question is how best to get all this stuff off my back glass and all over my live rock right now. Theres nothing in the tank that would hurt my feelings if it croaked (although the sally light foot is pretty cool). Suggestions? |

Sounds like diatoms.
Most new tanks get some sort of diatom algae bloom in the first few months. If you have a fair assortment of cleanup critters, decent live rock/sand, good water flow and keep up with water changes it will go away after a month or two.
