cycleing problem???

Ok so last week i bought live rock and sand and got a small bag of live sand from an established tank and put it in my tank to get a cycle going. The lr was cured. I had a haagen test kit that said fresh and salt water so i assumed all the tests worked for salt, after about a week of my ammonia testing the same i figured out that it was a fresh kit. Today i bought a saltwater ammonia test and now it tests zero. My nitrite went up a little during the week but never high and now it is at zero. Could my cycle have happened without me knowing? It was cured live rock? any help would be awsome

It is possible that it was a quick cycle. IMO Id let the tank sit for at least another 2 - 3 weeks. Keep testing and just be patient. You dont want to rush into anything in this hobby, it will only make worse problems down the line. In a couple weeks if levels are still o then you could add you clean up crew to give tou some critters to watch...

I had all cured LR about 50lbs for a 40g and the tank was reading nothing for all the bad stuff, cycled in less than a week

It can happen

i added LS and LR to my tank when i first started it up... the LR was already cured and only took about 3 weeks to cycle... but i of course waited 2 weeks after that to make sure everything stayed at 0

just wait another week or two and make sure everything stays at zero... if so add fish

right now you can probably start adding your clean-up crew
