I think its a bristle worm...is it bad?
I was just lookin in my tank, and there was this worm that was a light red on like, one half of it, and then the other half was like a grey/brown color...then it had a bunch of little spikey/hairy type stuff on it. Like a caterpillar kinda. It was only maybe a half inch. Is this a bristle worm, and is it bad?
srry i dont have a pic...my cam sucks indoors. I'll try to suck it up w/a turkey baster next time it comes out and take a picture of it outside thanks |

sounds like a bristle worm. most are not bad, they are good scavengers for your tank, ive got one in my tank, only seen it once.

so how will i tell if its bad? what are some things that it would affect? I mean...i guess i can live w/it, specially if it doesnt show up a ton, which i dont think it will since what i've seen on them it sounds like they're nocturnal usually...but they're gross lookin lol...if i do start having problems, how would i get rid of it? is there a shrimp that will eat it?
thanks

i just saw one that was almost 2" long in my new tank. i'm glad he's in there, the more scavengers the better, i think.

Yep it's one of those little ones. Some get 6"-'1 long. But all of mine are like 2" long at most. They are baby bristle worms (they seem to be etnerally "baby"). I've got tons of them, and lots of other pods. I don't get cyano anymore. The more natural scavengers, the better.

so leave it? k thats good, i'm not worried about it anymore...also, i say what i think was a pod yesterday..it was a tiny little white bug...VERY tiny. I couldnt really tell, but the short look i got of it, it looked kinda like one of those pincher bugs..you know, with the pinser on its tail? well it was kinda like that, but not as long, and there wasnt really a pincher...more like 2 short little tails..really short tails like it was forked...i'm guessing thats a copepod? it ran away like right away...hopefully i got more of them! (if thats what they are)

All- at what rate do these worms grow?
I saw one in my tank a few nights ago. It was about the width of a straw, and not all of it was visible. I did see a good 4" of it

I was checking out another thread and found a guy in oregon had a massive worm. It was like 7 feet. I belive it was a bristol worm but I will have check again. But that thing was eating some of his corals. Check it out at www.oregonreef.com
