Green Fern Problem.. Algae?
OK all off the sudden out of no where i have the green fern like algae streat going in my tank basically growing at incredable rates.. I am finding it in rocks, and in between corals especially my zoa's and my candy's.. What can i get to kill or rather eat all this up? Water quality has no nitrares, nitrites etc. all zero. Any idea's?

check the TDS on coming out of your RO unit. i started to get it when my DI resing was used up. after i replaced the resin it went away. you wont show any nitrate since the algae will consume it quickly.

Thats Hair Algae, or Byropsis.
An Urchin will destroy it, along with any other algae you have in there. Other than that, you could get a sea hare, or rent one. Beyond removing the algae, naturally or manually, you need to figure out what's fueling it, unless you just got a new little rock with it. Try doing a water change and really stirring up your substrate. Also, maybe vacuum under some live rock, lots of stuff builds up there. Steve

I run phosguard 24/7 in my sump, phosphates are at zero.. i think it did come on a coral i bought. I had a sea hare, it died from not having anything to basically eat up.. BUt now its a buffet line in there for it, so i guess i have to track one down. what about things like sea urchins and nubi's? Steve do you know of any locally?

thats Bryopsis.. i wouldnt remove it in the tank, that will just worsen the problem(if some floats away from where you pulled it off and settles elsewhere).. i had a virtgate rabbtifish that went crazy for it.. i have a urchin in my tank and he never touched it.. as stated once all levels were in check, it quickly went away..

Large turbo snails do a good job cleaning it up, not the astrea variety. Sea hare's are very effective also. just keep them clear of any open intakes to pumps. I believe I have both the sea hare and the large turbo's if interested.
