So tell me about nanos
I've been eyeing a 12 gal nano cube to start a mini reef. But I've heard they are hard to keep. How much harder are they? Is there anything extra I need to do that I don't already for my 29gal?

With a smaller volume of water, your parameters can get off much faster. Other than that I think just regular water changes and such. Cheers

THey are easy. I have a 20 gallon nano and its not that hard. I dont have corals and i got in mostly for the fish so i have a few to many fish and lots of green hair algae. but just keep the bioload pretty low and you should be fine.

EASY! Just make sure it is organized well from the start. I mean know what you want to keep, and get the lights to match. Or only keep easy softies. I think a FO nano is a mistake, it should be more of a peaceful snail and shrimp tank, like a planted terrarium, only reef plants and small creatures. Fish will only lead to headaches! I have a 20 gal reef and have had plenty of fish don't get me wrong, it's just that the tank is too small for even the non-territorial fish, they all become territorial in a confined space.

I disagree that fish lead to headaches, but it is a good idea to choose fish carefully to ensure they'll be able to live in the tank for their entire lifespan without stress.
I keep two SW nanos now, until yesterday it was three. I just dismantled the 5.5g reef because there were too many water chemistry issues - the stonies were sucking up calcium so fast I was having trouble keeping Ca/alk/Mg balanced and pH within acceptable levels. Softies are definitely easier, much less dosing, but you can do an LPS or SPS nano if you're willing to pay lots of attention to the tank. Regular testing and dosing of Ca and buffer (or kalk for both) are going to be important, since parameters can get out of synch MUCH faster in small tanks. Overall, I prefer tiny tanks but they can be demanding.

I have a 10G at work and I love it.
Make sure you have a skimmer though. Otherwide I had all kind of algae blooming.
