Coraline pealing off...

I have some roks that pretty much are purple of the coraline.. but now I noticed that the purple color is pealing off.. is this normal?

Sometimes it happens when the coralline gets really thick, esp. on glass, but I guess it could happen on rock too. If it really is 'peeling' and not bleaching/dying back you should be fine. You can encourage it to spread t/o the tank by taking the bits that have fallen off and pulverizing them between your fingers underwater.

If you're not sure what's going on, you should check your calcium, alkalinity, and ph.

I can't recall the exact parameters but they were good. And you are correct is happening on the peaces of rock that the purple was very very thick and dense.
I just want to make sure that is not a major problem with something else.

I have had "slabs" of coralline fall off glass---I assume it happens on rocks as well--like previously stated.
