What Am I Looking At?

Sorry- no pictures. I will do my best to decribe...

More catipllar-like than worm-like, multiple legs. Antenea. Milky white, translucent body. Probably 1/16 of an inch in length (which is why I cannot get a good picture.)

I have seen live ones popping out of holes in my LR, and scrurrying to other holes. I have seen 2 in the water column, both of which I thought were dead (no movement). They make a "C" shape in the water as they float. One was quite big- 1/8th of an inch or so.

If I had to GUESS, I would say they are shrimp- that is what they look like to me. PLEASE do NOT tell me they are MANTIS!!!!!

Tank will be 1 week old tomorrow. The Namoinia has spiked. Just finished a test, 0 Namoinia, .1 NH3, pH 8.3, Salinity 1.024. I am getting a big algea bloom now- my snails are loving it! (I have never seen a snail poop before- these guys are pumping it out!)

In a 24 Nano, I have 2 Turbos and 3 blue legs right now- am I good for where I am at right now?

Thanks!

Dave

I would guess amphipods or copepods. Google should turn up some images.

The snail count might be fine. I'd move the salinity up to 1.026-1.027, which is more like natural waters. This article discusses water parameters:

It also may be some type of small bristle worm. A lot of these critter than Jonathan and I suggest are beneficial to your tank. Unless unusual things are happening just let them be.

Jon, Tom:

Thanks! As long as they are not mantis, they are staying.
