Yellow tang with white specs?
I just purchased a yellow tang from the LFS yesterday. I think it was fine yesterday when I put it into my tank. I just went downstairs to look at my tank today and noticed the yellow tang now has these small white specs all over its body including its tail and fins? What could this be? I will try some pictures but my camera isnt the best for taking close ups of my tank so Im not confident it will be clear enough to show on here. Thanks for any help.

Most definitely ich. I have never really had to deal with ich, so I will leave it to someone else who has had to treat it to recommened a treatment.

I plan on adding about 4 tsps. of PraziPro to my sump. I hope that will take care of it and not harm anything else. Anyone have experience with this?

I have never even heard of it.Is it an ich treatment? Does it say wether or not it will harm invertabrates? If I were to treat ich I would do it in a hospital tank so as not to risk any other life in the tank.

Hmmm, if possible I would still treat it in a hospital tank.

PraziPro isn't for ich. The standard treatment for ich is to remove the fish to a QT and treat with copper. Check out the disease treatment forum, there's a FAQ on ich with all sorts of info.

.... Definitly take it out and put it in a hopital/ quarintine tank if possible. Less head aches, and easier to treat. Then maybe do a little hypo as well, and kick the ich's butt off of your tang

I tried doing a search for the ich under the disease forum and the this website tells me the server is too busy to open up the forum.
I was able to read a little about garlic? I think soaking nori in garlic for the tang to eat? Will this work, and what type of garlic? Thanks for any help. |

Garlic is something you may want to put into your tangs diet regularly. It helps boost thier immune systems. I doubt if it would cure an ich outbreak, however, but it may help.

Most products that they carry don't get the best reviews from people who have used them. I know there is something called "kick ich", but I don't know if it works well or not.

I have used kick ich before, you might as well just pour water into your tank, it would be much cheaper and just as effective. The only really true way to treat ich is to put the tang into a hospital tank and treat the hospital tank with copper or do hypo. Unfortunately its a pain in the butt if you dont even have a hospital tank, I know this because I dont have one .

Well, Ive caught my yellow tang and it is now in a 10 gallon quarantine tank. I found a product at PetSmart called Rid Ich+. It contains Formaldehyde 4.26% (11.52% formalin) and zinc-free chloride salt of malachite green. I will give it a try.
If it doesnt work, has anyone had success treating a yellow tang with copper? |

Buy Ich Attack(petsmart) remove all carbon treat every night in main tank until spots are gone do a ten gallon water change and you should be ok and if you want to send some money a uv sterilizer will help keep it away for good to.

Read up on the life cycle of this parasite. The best way to kill something is to understand how it works.
Hypo, QT for 30+ days, and the diaplay tank must remain fallow (fishless) for 30+ days as well- to kill the remaining stages of the little beasts. Ich should be no problem if acted upon in time, and properly. The Coral Beauty I just purchased came down w/ ich while in QT. Bummer.
