blue crab

my brother droped what i think is a baby blue crab in my tank yesterday... from the beach....i havn't seen the thing at all..


i don't know anything about him, when i try to do research, i'm just getting how to prepare them...


anybody know if their reefsafe, or how big they get?

anything would help

If its a blue crab that we eat, the can get to be a good size. If you go down to the releif bridges when people are dipping shrimp you can catch baby flounder( quarter size).

The typical "blue crab" isn't even people-safe, let alone reef-safe.

Maybe I should have said blue claw crab, I've never seen a blue crab in these parts, just blue claw. Got a pic?

no my brother released it my tank before i seen it...

i really don't want to take my rock work apart trying to find it...

maybe i'll try to trap it but i've stared at my tank last night waiting for him to pop out and he hasn't...

Callinectus sapidus, I am assuming, since you are in the general area? These are not safe in the slightest. Any of the Portunid or swimming crabs are active fish predators (and, of course, opportunistic feeders). Get it out as soon as you can--just leave some food as a trap.
