need id/info

I currently have a 29 gallon reef tank with LR, mushrooms, zoos and xenia. Last week I cleaned my overhang filters and found several white things that look like a sponge in the shape of a pineapple or egg. Now I am seeing it on my LR. I wish I could post a pic but cannot. Hopefully someone has information if they are harmful or how to get rid of them. Thanks

Scypha(sp?) sponge. Harmless, and from what I know a sign that tank is doing well.

Thanks tkang69. Will that stuff eventually go away or can I buy a crab that eats it?

They aren't harmful - no reason to get rid of them.

If you reduce the amount of particulates in the water column (mainly bacterial aggregates), then they will go away. Effective protein skimming will do this. They are harmless in any case--leaving them will not hurt anything at all.

thanks everyone for your input and knowledge. i just don't want them to spread all over because they are ugly. i have a little fission skimmer but obviously not a good enough one.

They will primarily stay in filters, anyway, since that is a heavy source of detritus/bacteria. If you haven't noticed too many in the tank, then I would not even worry about it.
