clean or dirty water

I am thinking on doing less skimming and taking the carbon out of my tank for a while. I would like to see if it will spike the growth of some of the Kenya tree's and mushroom's in my 125q tank. Right now my G2 skimmer is set to suck out a cup full of thick mud looking sludge about every 2 weeks and I am running carbon 24/7. I was running PC lights and now I am running T5 lights. I am not getting any growth out of my mushroom's or my Kenya trees and would like to try something new. Any sugestions?

That approach might increase growth. I would keep running the carbon to reduce any allelopathy problems. Carbon also won't remove enough organic matter to make much difference, in my opinion.
