Hey everyone...
I have most of my dry equipment for my 33 Long setup I am starting and I am almost ready to buy LR. In my 90 Gallon I have about 170lbs of Fiji LR, but I am trying to decide if I should go with a different type of rock. I am looking to create 2 islands with a nice valley in the middle to provide ample shelter and swimming room for my fishies... My question for all you RC members is... should I go with: 1. 60lbs Fiji LR 2. 60lbs Marshall Island LR 3. 45lbs Fiji, 15lbs Tonga Branch 4. Another mixture? Please help me decide what LR would be best for my tank... Also if you have any pictures of your rockwork, please post them and label what type of rock! That would be so much help.... I am especially looking for a tank with marshall rock so I can see how a tank full of that looks.... Thank you all in advance and please feel free to leave any advice u can!!! Thanks again Justin |

I would get some tonga to use for the buttom section, which will be supporting the top rocks. It would be a good idea because surface will be touching the sand so water and so on can circulate.

yes tonga on the bottom is a very good idea and creates flow throught the whole tank
after that i would go with some Marshal or fiji or some of that stuff from FL i have heard it is covering in all kinds of corals and stuff |

Get the Indonesian rock. There's a website somewhere that exclusively sells it online. They have this new kind of Indonesian rock that comes covered with ZOOS! The life on this rock will simply amaze you. It did me.
EDIT: Here's the website. Check it out http://www.reefscience.com/web/live_rock.php |

Hey affan... That stuff looks very intriguing.... did you order it? how much is it per pound? do you have any pictures of it in your tank, or other's tanks?
Aside from this new rock that has just been brought to my attention, Im thinking about doing 40lbs of marshall and maybe 10-15lbs tonga branch... Any other thoughts? |

It barely matters which island it's from, it's more to do with which part of the reef it's derived.
60 pounds in a 33 seems a lot to me ...... |

I'm sure you will like your LR from Premium Aquatics! It's a lot of fun to see what kinds of life forms come along for the ride on the rock.
Speaking of hitchhiking life forms, watch out for a crab hitchhiker in the Marshall Island rock. It's sometimes known as a "teddy bear" crab because it's totally covered in cream-colored hair. When I first saw one, my immediate reaction was that it looked like something created by Sesame Street. Anyway, as neat as it may look, it is a murderer in disguise. I lost two fish to one that must have been a "baby" crab when I added the rock to my tank -- it stayed hidden for months until it grew large enough to take on my fish. |
