Do you have a description for:
Anaplocapros lenticularis and what the water parameters need to be?, Food?, Acclimation?, for it to survive? Thanks.

Yes, interested in the stats. Will you be updating your web site with the parameters necessary for this fish to live in captivity as well? Thanks, Jeff

Freed,
The Red-White Barred Trunkfish, also known as the Red Flame Boxfish, is a rare find in the industry. These fish come from the Coral Sea and will attain a maximum size of 6 inches. This species is vivid red in color with a few white uneven bars covering the sides. The Red-White Barred Trunkfish should have a minimum of a 50-gallon aquarium, and prefers cooler water. Ideally a 100-gallon aquarium maintained at 68-72 degrees with similar sized non-aggressive fish would be suitable for this species. Use caution if placing it in a reef aquarium, as it will often seek out feather duster worms as well as consume crustaceans. When stressed, this fish will release a poisonous substance, called ostracitoxin, from its mucous glands, which will kill other fish in the aquarium very quickly. This is very rare in the home aquarium unless the water chemistry is toxic or the fish is being harassed relentlessly. When introduced into an aquarium, the Red/White Trunkfish can be fed a diet of live brine shrimp or bloodworms. After acclimatization, chopped squid, clams, mussels, and herbivore preparations can be fed. This fish has the peculiar habit of coming to the surface and spitting when it is hungry. We have had these fish in our coral farm numerous times and they are quite comical in their behavior and are very hardy fish. They adapt well to the confines of the home aquarium and will eat out of your hand. The fish we currently have is very friendly and will swim to the surface to greet any person who passes by the raceway where it is housed. He will eat anything from frozen foods to flake food, and has been in our possession for well over 2 months. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Hi, thanks for the info. So one would need a good chiller to keep the water well below normal temps for a reef tank with warm water corals, inverts and the like, correct? Thanks again, Jeff

Jeff,
If you were going to maintain this fish in a reef aquarium you would need a larger chiller in order to keep the temperature below 72. This would limit the types and species of corals to ones that are found in deeper water. Thank you again for your questions and have a great weekend. Kevin |

I would use caution placing any larger filefish in reef aquaria. They not only eat crustaceans and worms but also may decide to take a liking to some large polyp stony corals, Zoanthus polyps, mushrooms, Tridacna spp. etc.

Too bad some of the more odd/amazing looking fish aren't more reef compatible. Thanks for the info.
