snail deaths

i had 9 turbo snails in my 40g. in the past 24 hours, 2 of them died. the two that died were pretty large, but i've only had the 9 of them for about 2-3 months. what is the expected lifespan of turbo snails? should i be worried about 2 deaths? it looks like the deaths were from natural causes, not predation. the one i got out tonight had been really lathargic and didn't move more than an inch or so for the past couple of days and then tonight a hermit had him turned over and he was dead.

otherwise, the tank is fine. the fish are doing great, the corals look awesome, tank parameters are good, etc.

i've turned my skimmer up a bit to get wetter skimmate because i'm worried about some stringy nasty stuff that came out of one of the snails when i pulled him out. otherwise, is there anything else i should do?

i can account for 6 of the remaining 7, so i'm still trying to find that last guy. it is actually pretty rare for me to be able to count all of them at the same time. happens about once a week :P

there's a chance that there just wasn't enough food for him and he starved. although with ur size tank that shouldn't be the case. If a crab had him maybe he was eaten.

I think that they did just starved to death.
What else do you have as a clean up crew?
Do you use tap water to top off?

let's see. i have about 10 hermit crabs and just added some astera snails. i use RO water for top-off. there is plenty of algea on the sides and back of tank as well as some brown algea on the sand. the algea on the sides and back is green and hard (in the sense that my mag float won't take it off - i have to scrap it but it isn't correline).

but, if they starved to death, is there anything i can do to feed the other snails in the tank?
