Maybe a first... anyone heard of this

I just bought a 72gal bow front tank and was looking at it today and thought I wonder if anyone has ever set one up with the bow in the back so I did a search and nada. Has anyone ever heard of anyone doing this? I thought it would give sort of a cool affect. Any suggestions.

Michael

sad part is if a LFS thought of it they would charge twice as much and call it a Bow Back.

Yeah you got the idea building the rock in a half moon, oh well I guess it couldnt hurt to try while the tank cycles. If there is any LFS's looking right now we are on to you so don't even try it.

I wasn't ever a big fan of the bow front; hey, if you turned it around there would be room for powerheads or a closed loop.

I think practically speaking, its easier to drill holes and mount bulkheads to a flat surface. A bowed back would present some issues.

But it would give you extra depth without the visual distortion. Looking thru a bowfront for very long makes me want to heave.

I am a newb to salt, BUT I REALLY like the idea. It would give you a "pocket" for your rock and such so that you still have a square front look, but also get the panorama of the bowed rock. Please post pictures if you try it out.

From an aquascaping I can see where your coming from, it would be interesting to see the results. Although once the water is in the 'bow' will not look as 'bowed'.
Also the sides of the tank, assuming your placing against a flat wall, will be sticking out quite a way.

And now the biggest problem!! LOL ... How are you going to get in the cabinet cupboards!!!!!!!

Another issue is $$$ your paying more for a "bow front" and then your going to turn it so its facing the wall.

I think it'll look really nice!

I own a wrought iron shop and was going to build a cabinet. I was planning on placing it so the bow is facing a corner and building a lighting sytem that would come out from the back and hold the lights above the tank kinda like those lights for the back of couches.

i looked at one that i don't use and the openings in the back are larger than the ones in front, you just need doors. so it will work.

Go for it! it's yours and set it up any way you like!

This would give you a good depth look. Although it would only look good as a corner piece. They already make a similiar set-up. It's a good idea though. It would give you SOo0o0 many posibilities for aquascaping it's not even funny. You'd have so much depth and wouldn't have to worry about rock sitting against the glass. As for the bulkhead problem. You could just drill the holes in the bottom side of the tank.
