I would imagine that as long as it cannot touch any other inverts it should be fine, except maybe with small fishes...skip

I looked them up back when Andy first posted seeing them at Aquarium Arts. From what I could find, these anemones require heavy feeding and are not so demanding for lighting. If the crab is no longer taking it around, you should possibly attempt target feeding the little guy with meaty foods. Fresh seafood from the grocer pureed works well.
I also read somewhere that they do not survive long without the symbiotic relationship. This could be due to the above feeding requirements. The crab would take them to all different rocks and drag them across the substrate where they could pick up food. If you feed it, maybe it will be alright. That crab/anemone combo was so tempting to me, but I decided that crab looked too large for my comfort in the reef. Hope it works out for you! |

I love how the crab sifts the sand and keeps it super clean ! I never have to touch it and it looks great all the time.
rrusch24 where did you pick yours up from and how long have you had them now ?? aztbs I have been target feeding mine silver sides and has been alive and well for at least 4mo on the rock now.. So it seems to be ok without the crab (if you feed like you are saying)

One other thing... My crabs have switched shells at least 3 times in 5mo. getting larger and larger.. One died because I did not have another big shell for him to get into. Dont know if the cause of his death was due to a small shell or if something else happened (stared, they all were eatting well), the others are fine. Good luck

Yes i do target feed all 3 of them, 1 on the crab (he seems to like that one) the other 2 are on live rock, respectfully. They seem to be quite the voracious eaters too!! I feed them all mysis and they really enjoy it, but i also found that they love the feeder shrimp from AA.
I got him from AA about 3 weeks ago, and he was orignally in a 12gallon. When he was in there he abandoned his shell and anemones. ( my guess is he wasnt strong enough for all 3) But after about 2 days i noticed he had a new larger shell. After another 2 days he found his old shell and took off one of the anemones. I then took the old shell, with the other 2, and placed it on top of my rock pile so they would get more light and circulation. Well another one climbed off the shell and has made his home there. The next day the last one on the shell made his home on a piece of LR also. So since the big switch-a-roo i got a 72 gallon tank and have placed most of his hermit buddies and LR in that tank. The 3 anemones seem to be doing wonderful with target feedings 7 days a week, and the crab loves his new shell. (When i first got him i noticed he had only one pincher and now he is showing a beautiful claw growing in place of the nub, but now he is missing a leg, crazy guy) Just recently i added 2 damsels, and he actually used the anemone on his back and backed into the damsel. He then spit it out after a few minutes and later that day the damsel perished. Quite comedic from my pov. But he is doing very well and has plenty of bigger shells to move into of he so desires. He is by far my favorite crab!! He played well with my clowns in the 12, i hope they can play nice together in the 72. Rick |

btw, my false clowns have tried to host to those anemones twice, but i think the tank was too small and not enough circulation, my 2 cents

Just keep in mind that these crabs are NOT reef safe.
