How does branching hammer grow heads?
Recently got a branching hammer frag, and was wondering how this one grows additional heads. Does one head split into multiple like a candy cane? Or does it sprout a new head from the side?

it does both split (sometimes into 3) and bud off new polyps around the sides...

Cool. For fragging purposes, how far below the head should the cut be made?

Include, I'd say, about half an inch minimum below the last live tissue, and I'd glue the stub to another rock to keep bristleworms from colonizing it---imho, it is one place where they can be a nuisance, inside the honeycomb structure of a fragged lps.
