Any problems from replacing substrate???
Hey guys, I was wondering if it was possible to replace the 2-3 inch sand bed that I have. I believe that right now, it is a crushed coral type sand. I wanted to replace the sand bed with something with a much finer consistency and also because my sand bed now is covered in some sort of brown algae. I would prefer it to be white and a little finer. Are there any ramifications of replacing the sand bed. I have a FOWLR tank with very little zoas, a muchroom or two that came on the lr and that's about it. The tank has been up for about 2-3 months. Any advice about this would be great. Thanks guys for helping a newb out...

your tank is in a cycle mode, replacing the substrait won't stop this cycle, infact, your tank is doing what it is supposed to do. If you MUST replace the substraight, do it in sections, and NOT all at once. The brown algae, is actually bacteria, a good CLEAN UP crew will help that out you will experience the same condition, at this time, changing out your substraight, be sure your are doing water testing,, iE no2,no3 ect. Don't panic. good Luck
