what kind of skimmer to use

Hey fellow reefer's i have 46 bow reef that have bin running for a year and a half now,All my parameters are ok except my nitrates goes and comes not too much but enough to anoy the hell out of me(lol)i often here people here on rc say there nitrates are undetectable and i always dream of the day i can actually say the same ,The only time my nitrates are 0 is after my bi -weekly 20-30% water change and that 0 reading only last about 4-5 days.I must say i think that the problem is my protein skimmer it's one that is built into my pro clear wet dry filter although wet dry works perfectly and gets the job done but for some reason i just don't seem to trust that built method of a protein skimmer and when i first converted from fw a few years back i was told a good protein skimmer was like insurance. Now i would love to hear some opinions on these built in skimmers and what kind of skimmers would you guys recomend and is there anyone out there using this same method of a skimmer and is having any successwith it after all you guys are the experts so i'm willing to listen and take advise.again tank is a 46 bow reef with 50lb lr pro-clear wet/dry filter 200 watt heater cpr med hang on fuge assorted shrooms feather dusters few polyps 175watts aquactinics mh t5 combo..

So what type of skimmer are you looking for? Hang-on, in-sump, or standalone? Also what sort of budget are you looking at for purchasing a skimmer?

what do you have for flow in that tank? ou'll never get your nutrients down without good flow. The skimmer can't pull stuff out if it can't get to it.

well right now i don't haave a lot of room to work with because i already have a hang on fuge so i'm thinking a stand alone that will fit under my display next to the wet/dry filter or something that can hang on the side of the wet/dry filter. As far as a budget probably not more than 250 bucks. My flow is not much plan on upgrading that in a couple of days right now i have a penguin 660 and a powersweep212 and now that i think about it neiher one is rated for more than 200gph.
