I would cure it in a seperate tub or garbage can, outside or in a garage if possible. Do regular water changes during the process to keep the ammonia down and to preserve as much life as possible.

you're going to let the 70 cycle right? or are you just gonna put the cured rock in and call it good? if you're still gonna cycle it, then i'd say throw the new rock in too...might speed it up to be w/cured rock??? idk...but what graveyard said works too...or you could just get dry base rock, and it will eventually turn live w/the 50 lbs seeding it.

What animals are in the tank besides the live rock, if any? The new live rock could cause quite an ammonia spike.

I wouldnt place rock which needs to be cured in with already established/cured rock, you risk killing the life in the cured rock during the process.

reeferrock.com

get the baserock and after shipping it comes out to about 2.50-3.50 per pound (and this is from florida to seattle). You dont need to do anything other than rinse it and it will become LR soon enough

Hey guys,

thanks for all the info. I found some live rock on live aquarium.com for 79.99 @ 45 lb. that sounds like a great deal im thinking im going to buy this rock cure it and then im going to set up my 70 and put all my stuff in. because im also gonna take the water from my old tank and put it in the 70 gal. that should be good because i have rubble rock for the bottom and about 50 lb all ready cured and established and the extra 90 lb once cured it should be fine???
how long does it take to cure live rock >. 2-3 weeks?

once i have it set up how can i stack my rock and support it on each other .. do coat hangers work or should i use plastic rods??

Well, I'd definitely cure the rock in a separate tub, and it could take anywhere from 3-6 weeks or so, roughly.

You arent putting all those fish in a 70gal are you? I could be wrong as Ive only been reading about SW tanks for 4 or 5 months (and only had one for a few weeks) but Im pretty sure that the tangs are eventually gonna get way too big for that tank. And the tangs and the clowns can become agressive toward each other too. What you could do though is run Both tanks then seperate your tangs from each other and your clowns from each other. The clowns will be fine in either tank, but the tangs are going to need 100+ (i think) in a couple of years depending on how big the are now. Just something to think about! Good luck with your new tank!
