Red Eggs? On GSP

Found these eggs on my GSP this morning. All I have is snails (astrea, margarita, nass) and a red-leg hermit. Any ideas?
Here's the photo:

Yes, it does appear as though your GSP is spawning

That's cool. My open brain is grabbing them with its feeders. I hope I don't have 1000 new colonies though - that could be quite a removal project! Does anyone know where to go for more info on GSP spawning? I couldn't find anything.

Thanks everyone!

I don't think it's a very common event. I think you would have to have male gametes for it to propogate sexually all over the tank. Don't worry though, you will soon have an uncontrallable growth of them anyway.

I bet your other corals will enjoy the free natural food.

One more question. Can these "eggs" pollute the tank or are they toxic? It looks like my snails are curling up, copepods are dying, and even bristleworms are curling up and look like they may be dying. Corals seem to be fine.

I'm going to do a water change right now, any suggestions???

I would doubt if eggs released from a smaller colony could effect things that badly. U sually when you see problems with gametes effecting water quality it is sperm.

I wonder if you have had an event that induced spawning and is also effecting the fauna in your tank, like a higher/lower temp than usual or something involving your parameters.

In any case, water changes and maybe running carbon is a good idea.

Good luck!

Did a small water change, removed the snails (they have recovered and are moving around in the other tank) and tested Ammonia and Nitrate. Both tested fine (0).

I wonder if the GSP excreted some sort of a toxic substance. I have chemi-pure running and wanted to throw some regular carbon in (unfortunately all out), so I put a bag of Purigen in.

Thanks for helping. I've actually been home sick this week and haven't noticed anything different with temp, etc. There is a smaller colony in the tank as well. This all happened after the eggs started scattering from the GSP. Do you think I should run and get some regular Carbon tommorow or should the chemipure take care it?

Thanks again
