what a beauty
are coral beauties reef safe? i have heard they tend to nip at some coral. i have also heard from other people that they never had a problem with them. also, what are the best things for them to eat? i know they like algae clips....but can they be taught to go for flake foods and or mysis shrimp??

Never had a problem w/ my beauty, although I've also heard of others having issues w/ theirs. Mine also readily took flake, clipped algae and a variety of frozen entrees.

In general dwarf angels are hit or miss on nipping at corals. I am not sure if coral beauties are any more or less likely to nip than the other dwarf angels.
My pygmy angel ate everything but I mainly fed it formula 2 flakes and emerald entree frozen. |

I have a flame angel and a pygmy angel in my 240 (both are closely related to the coral beauty). I have never had any problems with mine. They will steal food from my corals and pick things off of the corals, but so do all of my other fish (clown, tangs, gramma, gobies, etc.). I feed a mix of flake foods, pellets, nori, mysis, brine, cyclop-eeze, and fresh seafoods. The angels eat all of it. I say go for it as long as you know you can keep them well-fed. I usually feed small portions two to three times a day.

I also had the pygmy in my 29 gallon for over a year and pretty much only fed flakes. Still never had a problem with it affecting corals.

I had a CB that enjoyed the occasional polyp.

Mine has started picking on my open brain, but leaves everything else alone. Dwarf angels in general seem prone to nipping fleshy LPS corals and clams over other things, but nothing's really guaranteed -- some will nip SPS corals, some like softies and some never touch a thing. I don't think one species is more likely to nip than others, but CBs generally have a good reputation.
I keep three Centropyges (flavicauda, bispinosus & loricula) as well as a flagfin in my 65g (yes, there's a bigger tank in the works for when this guy grows up ) and feed them everything but the kitchen sink. There's a purple or green seaweed sheet in the tank all day long for them to pick at, and I also feed one meal per day. I try to combine different things and change what they eat every day to keep their interest up. The current menu includes: pellets (Hikari Marine 'S' and Marine 'A'), mysis, krill, shrimp, plankton, Cyclopeeze, Marine Cuisine, Hikari frozen angel formula, HBH soft pellets (both veggie and shrimp) and their favourite thing by far, live mussels in the half shell. IMHO angels are just about the most beautiful thing about keeping a reef tank. They can be a risk, but they're well worth it
