Question Carbon making water cloudy white?

hey guys whats up?

heres my prob, had my 55L reef setup for a while now, everythings been fine. have dual bio wheel emporer 400 and red sea skimmer. Usually my water is crystal clear, yesterday i changed out my filters and finally used those empty cart's that came with my filter for adding media, In this case I added black carbon (rinsed first) today after getting back from work I've noticed that my tank looks kinda cloudy. I also cleaned my glass on the inside yesterday as well so i know thats now the prob, they glass is spotless.. any input would be much appreciated.

thanks

Often cloudiness that occurs after the changing of filter media is due to a bloom of bacteria that is replacing bacteria removed with the filter.

depends on if allot of your bacteria was on the old filters and not enough on the bio wheels.

carbon will not cloud water you have another issue

i would test your water for amm nitrite nitrate

i used that same setup on a FO for years and never had cloudy water from carbon i used a bio media of some sort since the filters already have carbon in them

also that type of filtration is really ment for FO tank

Its basically fish only w/ LR and a RBTA, everything apears to be in perfect health. I added some AmQuel+, I'll have to take a water sample in to the LFS tomorrow I dont have my own testing kit. Thanks.

no need to bump till ya get your water tested, you should not add any chemichals to your tank. what is your alk level, ca level, and mag levels these are things you need to know if your going to keep that rbta alive.

the only thing you need to add besides water changes, is baking soda to raise alk, pedalow/dowflakes for ca and sometimes mag [theres a homemade version of that too, epson salt and 1 other ingredient] check out randys 2 part alk and ca in the chemistry section.
