is mag 7 too much flow for this tank?

would a mag 7 be too much flow for my set up

tank is a 37g 24x18x18 and the sump is a 30g aquarium

the total water volume is about 60g

after elbows, t's etc, Im expecting the mag to push about 400 gph

this is about 6.66x turnover/hour

is that acceptable?

Thats fine for a 37 gallon. I used to run around 500 gph on my 20H and it was fine. I also had some extra flow help from a powerhead.

I use a mag 9.5 on my 20gal. After all the splits and elbows I would say I'm runing between 700 and 800gph. No problems at all..

My mag7 went from my sump, through a chiller and returned to tank. With two 90's on the return it seemed like it wasn't enough flow. This time I'm using all flex tubing with no 90's and will see if it helps. I'm sure the chiller puts most of the pressure on it anyway.

Rules on flow:

1: You can never have too much flow.
2: The only time you can have too much flow is if the sand is kicked up.
3: Ignore rule number 2 if you want to.

1 inch will handle around 600 gals/hr

What are the fittings on the Mag7? I think (I'm not sure though) that they're a 3/4". If they are, you'd be fine with either. Usually I try to match the fittings on the pump.

mag 7 has 1/2 fittings

I am also considering goign with a quietone 4000

a bit more flow, but I plan on putting 2 Y's on it and 3 outlets, along with a T into the fuge, so I think I'll be able to get the flow down to under 600

my overflow is drilled for a 1" drain, but I could use that for the return (since the quietone 4000 has 1" outlet) and drill a larger drain in there for the additional flow....at least I have acrylic and options huh?
