has it pooped lately? it might be just that. how are your water params? If something in the water if off...an anemone will be the first inhabitant to let you know.

If you start to see white curly q's coming out of its mouth its dyeing. if it starts to deteriorate and fall into pices get it out

If it swells back up in an hour or two.. it was just expelling waste (brown gunk come out?) that'll happen often (if your feeding it)

Can you post some details of your tank/lighting as well as water parameters? That would be helpful.

Also, how long have you had the BTA? Has it ever looked healthy? How long has it been looking bad? How long has your tank been set up?

Sorry it has taken so long, been really busy trying to do research. My water seems perfect, PH 8.2, nitrate 0, nitrite 0, ammonia 0. I ran out of the stuff to test alkalinity, and havn't found the calcium test here in Japan yet. An update on the anemone though, he moved under a rock a few days ago, but he opened up and filled back out. This morning, he had moved from under the rock. I'm guessing he was pretty stressed, and trying to adjust to the tank. I havn't had my tank set up but about 2 months, but everything in the tank came out of an already established tank about 3 years old. All I did was put it into mine. The tank size is about 48 gallons, and I'm running 1 X 250 Watt 14K MH, protein skimmer, mechanical filter, and UV sterilizer. I was also wondering if it would be too much to run another 250 watt bulb with a 20K. Also, how long does it take for an anemone to unbleach (if it ever does) and return to a healthy state? All the anemones that I have found here in Tokyo have all been bleached. Thanks for all the advice, and please keep it coming.

Based on that description, you have an anemone thats whithering away. An anemone thats extracting its waste does not have to open up the mouth half of its width and it definately does not detatch from the rock.If your new to saltwater fish, wait at least a year to get an anemone. They are a simple creature that is very sophisticated to maintain.

My wife was the one who wrote that, and I think she exagerated the extent of everything. When I came home, it looked as if it was just stressed, and was moving from on top of the rock to a shadier area. The mouth wasn't open but to about the size of a quarter, and the anemone is about 8 inches in diameter when fully filled out. I am concerned about the bleaching though. Any advice?

let me see if I can get one. Although, he does look a lot healthier now, but he is still bleached. Stick around for a few mins.

yes your anemone is bleached. Maroon is probably putting some stress on it too.
