Margarita snail climbing out
I bought three Margarita snails about a month ago, Almost every day I'll find one on the side of the outside of the tank, I left for the Cape over the weekend and when I got back I found one on the floor! They all are still alive I guess by closing and trapping water inside but I would like to know why they do this and should I worry about putting them back in the tank so quikly with out putting them in shock?

I have nerite and trochus snails that do the same thing. Some snails are found where the tide comes in and out daily. Otherwise it could be a problem with your salinity. Snails have been known to try to escape if the sg is to high or too low. If your salinity is ok there isnt much you can do except cover your tank somehow.
I used to throw them back in now i dont even bother. the water they trap inside is the same as your tank so besides a temp issue there should be much shock. |
