MH ballast for DE and SE bulb question

Does the ballast type matter for driving either the DE or the SE bulb?

Do you need different types of ballast for each or a ballast can power either type?

energy_crisis,

the SE and DE have different ballast design for them ex.

ballast M58 is design for 250w SE bulb
ballast M80 is design for 250w DE bulb

but if you use a electronic 250w ballast, that ballast will be able to fire either SE or DE 250w bulb but you might see a slight different wattage use, PAR output, and or color different... ex. a 250w electronic ballast will drive a 250w DE bulb at 250w, while a ballat M80 can drive the 250w DE bulb at 300w, both will run fine but the different in wattage can and will affect the three previous things...
