10,000K vs 14,000K (example pic)

What a difference! I just thought I would share this with everyone as I thought it was pretty interesting. I am in the process of converting my 10,000K MH lighting over to 14,000K. My setup goes like this: 400W, 250W, 400W. So far the left 400W and the 250w have been converted. I will fire up the last one at the end of the week. You can see the difference in the photo. Also, don't mind the algae as I am on the tail end of a monstrous bloom.

Yes, but based on their color, I don't think I was using enough as I was never really happy. Everything always had a hint of yellow. The 14K has really brought out a lot of the flourescence of what few corals I have.

The only downside is that I loose some of the effect of the coralline algae. I had a lot of red and orange coralline that loses its color under the blue lighting.

how old and what brand 10K is in the photo. It looks disgustingly yellow. I had 10k's before switching to 15K's. I was thinking about switching back - but now it is back to the drawing board...again...gotta love this hobby

I switched to 14K, honestly, I liked the 10k better. I think coralife needs to make a 12k, then I would be happy.

another option is the last thing I need, lol

I switched my order at the last second with my lights from Hamilton 10ks to Pheonix 14ks, so happy I did.

The 10K is a Hamilton. Its approximately 10-11 months old and in need of changing so it has likely drifted in color. However, I don't think its drifted that much.

THats got to be the ugliest 10K I have ever seen.

Either that, or its picking up a lot of yellow in the water.

What ballast is the hammy on?
