How many electrical devices are in your tank water??

Just was curious to know how many electrical devices you all are keeping within your tank/sump/fuge. I think I have too many and it results in higher temps and I would suppose invites the potential and greater probability of stray voltage.

2 Tunze Streams (DC voltage, pretty safe)
2 euro-reef sp4 pumps on the skimmer

Everything else is external for the main tank. MJ powerheads are also used in my QT tank and sw mixing container.

do you all belive small trace voltages will seap out of your electrical units or do you think they all are 100% insulated with zero seapage into your tanks?

I've thought about this often vjay. There are some very interesting threads on the subject. I've run display's for years with many powerheads/heaters and just recently bought two titanium grounding probes for both my displays. I can't honestly say i've noticed anything. One display was up and running for 3 years. I've noticed no difference at all with the life in this display (after about 6 months). I think both sides have very persuasive points though.

I am really contemplating reducing my powerheads and return pumps in an effort to at least reduce the potential for voltage sepage. I too, have read many articles on this subject some of which even suggest fish illness from stray electricity. I think keeping it simple is always best as the fewer variables the less potential danger.

Basic college physics lesson on EMF: Any current traveling through a wire induces an electrical field. The magnitude (size/strength/whatever) is in direct proportion to the current draw. Ever notice how your pH meter goes nuts if you place the probe wires near AC wiring for your other components?

If you're asking if voltage directly seeps out of a device into the water, the answer is generally no. If it did, you'd know about it. If you have a grounding probe, you'll trip your GFCIs, possibly even the breaker. If not, your tank water is energized at the line voltage, and you become the grounding probe when you reach in.
