Lights Burning

I added a fish yesterday and I turned the lights when I did this the daylight bulb went out and starting smelling burnt. I went and replaced the bulb bt I think it is the switch, can you replace switched without a problem. All other parts of the lighting system works, fans, and moonlight. Any suggestions.
