foxface lo in a 40?

ok so i've always thought that they were too big and active to be in a 40 gallon tank (i was thinkin 65 minimum) but i've been seeing a few people put them in 40 gallon tanks lately. I'm setting up a 40 breeder soon, and would like to know if they actually can be kept in that? i would think not, but if they can be successfully kept in a 40 breeder, i may get one.

what do you guys think?

mike

I wouldnt reccomend it. Those people that have been putting them in 40s are going to regret it once and if they reach full size. They can grow up to 10". They are herbivores and need a lot of LR to graze on. So you are going to need more LR and that means less room for the fish to swim. I mean it will work for a little but it will eventually outgrow the tank.

I wouldn't put one in anything less then 4 foot long. Foxfaces are similar to tangs.... they need space.

ok thanks all. those are the exact answers i was expecting, and was thinking the same things every time i see someone w/a tank that small w/one. But i just thought i'd ask and be sure. I wasnt even thinking of gettng one untill i seen all these people get one in a 40, but thats just another fish i can cross off my list

whats a "bigger" fish that can go in a 40 breeder then? I know thats not a whole lot of swimming room, but i like having 1 "bigger" centerpiece fish, and then building around it w/little guys.

thanks all
mike

the way mine hides I think he'd be fine in a 10gal

Yea, big tank, they need room to dart off under a rock at the first sign of their shadow.... er to swim that's it...

nah, mine's just a chicken, I do love him tho
