overdriving with WH5 ballast? Grim???
this question is mostly for grim but if anyone else know you can go a head and chime in.
i was gona go with a 6x39w T5 set up but due to budget constraints i decided that i would bump it down to just 4 bulbs. but i will be using 2 WH5 to power the bulbs so i can do a dusk/dawn effect. I saw a post a wile back that you (grim) accidentaly overdrove a bulb using two wires from a wh7. do you think that the wh5 will do the same and do you have any par numbers or wattage drawn from the overdriven bulbs? also what bulbs should i chose for the 4x39w set up. if i can, i will be overdriving the daylights only and not the actinic these are the bulbs i have to chose from ATI 39W - 12000K Aquablue Special T5 HO Fluorescent Blue Plus T5 HO Fluorescen Actinic Blue 03 T5 HO Fluorescent General Electric 39W - 6500K Daylight T5 HO Fluorescent Giesemann 39W- 6000K Midday Sun T5 HO Fluorescent 11000K Aquablue Plus T5 HO Fluorescent Actinic Plus T5 HO Fluorescent Pure Actinic 03 T5 HO Fluorescent UV Lighting 39W- 10000K AquaSun T5 HO Fluorescent 12000K Actinic White (50/50) T5 HO Fluorescent Super Actinic T5 HO Fluorescent |

You need to make sure you are running good endcaps if you were to try this. If you double up on the red leads (use 2 instead of one per lamp) it will overdrive the lamps. The thing is it is a dangerous set up. If you have a arcing condition in the endcap it is going to meltdown and possibly catch fire. I personally don't think it is worth the risk. I would drop some coin on the better Ice Cap reflectors and stick with a standard ballast setup. I guess if you mounted the endcaps in steel so fire is not an issue that would be safer.
